Colin has told us that he wants to do an assessment now. He wants us to perform our Motown songs and then he will assess them. He will tell us what mark we got and of course give us feedback on what we did wrong or what we did well.
For this week I'm sure he said it was just a sort of prelim. He wanted us to have to one more chance at performing the songs before being assessed.
We had to perform both songs in front of Colin and the class. We were also being filmed. So I think either we will all watch it next week and assess ourselves or he will do it in his own time.
WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO:
The first song we performed was 'Where did our love go?' by The Supremes. This song is very easy for me, as the main bass line just sits on four notes.
I feel that we played this song pretty well. We all learnt our parts and knew what we were doing. Everyone was looking at each other.
The only thing I thought was a little bit 'Iffy' was the tempo. It would change all the time. Each time we played it, it was a different speed. And I feel when we were performing it, it was maybe a little faster than what it should have been.
Other than that it was great. We were all locked together. We all started and finished at the right time. And everyone knew where the two breaks were. I feel pretty good about this song.
I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE:
Since we are basically two bands 'merged' together. Each band chose a song they all ready knew. We chose 'Where did our love go' and they chose 'I heard it through the grapevine' by Marvin Gaye.
We performed this song straight after our first. For me I think I played it pretty well. I didn't learn the part exactly like the track but I learnt it close to it. I had so much to do with all my other subjects so I wanted to focus on them. Everyone else learnt all their parts pretty close, and again we all knew the structure and what we were doing. We were all comunicating.
I can't really think of any major faults. I feel like we played it really well and we all definitley enjoyed it. All my band mated said that they thought this was our stronger song.
NEXT WEEK AND HOW I FEEL:
I don't really know what's going to happen now. Next week I think we will either be performing these two songs again for an official assessment. Or we will watch back what we done this week and give feedback on each other. Either way I'm looking forward to it.
I'm finding this class super beneficial. It is helping improve dramatically. Not only is my confidence as a perform slowly improving but I have almost had a years worth of experience, in working in bands.
I have worked in 3 or 4 bands over the college year, and it really is helping. I can work in a band much better now and just really enjoy it.
I look forward to the lessons to come.
